Cash Grants Disbursement among Affectees of Zalzal Lake and Rains/Snowfall in Azad Jammu & Kashmir

The emergency situation caused by over flow of “Zalzal Lake” on February 09th due to heavy rains and snowfall was first responded by Sungi through provision of Non-Food Items to 173 most vulnerable families. For providing further support to affected families who have collapsed houses/property, Sungi with the support of Oxfam Novib initiated Cash for Choice Project for 493 families in union councils of Salmia, Chikar, Hattian Bala & Garhi Doputta of AJK. The amount of Rs.20,000 per family is being provided to each affected family after detailed assessment.  

 

On March 09th, the first disbursement took place at Chikar in which Prime Minister of AJK - Mr. Farooq Haider was invited along with other officials from SDMA, Government line departments, civil society and media. pic-100
A constitution of rehabilitation of the affected communities and current issues were presented to the AJK government.
AJK government, SDMA, civil society and the beneficiaries appreciated Sungi’s timely and efficient response in the region.

Till 12th March, 260 households comprising of 1404 individuals were assessed to receive the cash grants. Among which 20 widow and 38 disables were addressed. Further assessment is in process in which destitute, women headed households and the disables are given priority.
