Following are the some highlights of flood of 29 July, 2010 in the most remote district of AJK (Neelum) for your kind attention please. This report is prepared on the basis of information received to my office from different COs and clusters of district Neelum.

·      The worst floods and rains in living memory have destroyed over 500 houses and 300 shops in district Neelum - AJK’s badly hit area, Neelum Valley Cluster coordination development forum (NVCCDF) reported on Saturday 31 July 31, 2010.

·      The death toll in floods and rain-related incidents has risen up to 34 across the district. 54 people are injured.

·      The collapse of five connecting bridges to the different parts of valley and difficult terrain has left 30,000 people isolated diconected from the world.

·      The inflow of floodwater into Neelum river added devastating force to the water flow, eroding hundreds acres of land on both sides which resulted in the demolition of 300 shops and 4 hotels located on sides of the river besides destroying over 500 houses.

·      Hundreds of homes and vast farmland were destroyed in the nine union councils of district Neelum of Azad Jammu Kashmir (AJK), with the main highway reportedly cut and communities isolated as monsoon rains caused flash floods and landslides.

·      Almost a 30,000 people had been affected by the flooding, and at least 05 bridges destroyed in the valley.

  •   The collapse of 10 Micro Hydle Power Station in the different parts of valley damaged the electricity of 20 villages.
