Rights Based Development-National Training (December 07-10 , 2009)

Protection Women1Sungi is one of the few NGOs that are nationally and internationally known for having unique experience of integrated approach of advocacy and development, which beautifully blended rights, based approach in process of social transformation. To promote and improve this approach Sungi’s Human Rights programme initiated process of sharing its expereince in rights based development and the workshop was part of this initiative.

 

 

 

Human Rights and Policy advocacy Programme of Sungi Development Foundation arranged 4-days national training workshop on “Rights Based Development”, in Giglit from 07-10 December, 2009. 22 Particpants of seven district of Gilgit-Baltistan particpated in the training wprkshop. 

 

Protection WomenThe workshop provided an opportunity to the participants to share and learn about fundamental rights, rights based approaches to development and enhance their skills and knowledge to relate these with their work and experiences. 

 

Objective behind the training was to educate the people about the philosophy of rights based development. Educating people about Gilgit-Baltisatn constituional package was anoother objective of the workshop. 

 

  

Main Themes of Workshop: 

 

·          Rights Based Development 

·          Gender concepts and its link with Rights based Development   

·          Role of women in politics  

·          New administrative package for Gilgit Baltistan  

·          Gilgit Baltistan Constitutional Package 

 

Protection Women2Mukhtar Javed Manager Human Rights Programme, Aimal Khan Manager Policy Advocacy, Shafi Advocate and Gulnaz Sheikh Coordinator Polciy advocacy were the main facilitators of the workshop.  

 

At the end of workshop participants decided to form a Gilgit Baltistan advocacy network. They selected members from seven districts. The network would be responsible to form district chapter and report Advocacy Programme. They were also given task to develop ToRs of the central and district chapters of the network.
