Sungi started 16-days of campaign on ending violence against women

Human Rights Programme of Sungi with the collaboration of SAHARA Development Foundation and Area Coordination Councils of district Haripur, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Battagram and AJK started 16-days campaign on ending valance against women that is also known as “White Ribbon Campaign” Theme of the year 2010 is “Role of men ending the violence against women”. Sungi Human Rights programme planned following events during the 16-days starting from November 26 to Dec 10, 2010;

Awareness rising in the community: Human Rights activists in above mentioned district of Hazara and AJK had already started white ribbons campaign in their localities. The activists are being supported by Sungi,s zonal staff arranging awareness raising sessions on the campaign and distributing handouts, white ribbons, and blank sheets for men comment ending violence against women and.

Awareness rising in the staff: Human Rights programme(HR) also facilitated Sungi’s offices arrange a session on Nov 26th, 2010 with staff to sensitize them about the violence against women campaign.

Promos on ending violence against women: HR programme with the support of POWR 93 (radio Pakistan Abbottabad) started broadcasting promos on ending violence against women from Nov 16,2010. The promos are broadcasted from 0200pm to 0800pm daily.

Documentary on violence against women: HR contracted Hazara Cable Network to telecast Sungi’s documentary prepared in 2008 on white ribbon campaign. The documentary would be telecasted from Hazara Cable Network for Abbottabad, Mansehra and Haripur viewer.

Involving media in the campaign: Sungi zonal in charge will involve print media in the campaign. For this purpose Journalist/ACC network will be contacted and Press Secretaries and HDR activists would be motivated write articles in the local newspapers on violence against women.

Involving Deistic Steering Committees of Political Parties in campaign: Zonal in charge will involve DSC of their respective zone to support the campaign. Leaders of various political parties will take the message to their party workers and same procedure would be repeated as given above for the community and staff members.

Involving religious leader in the campaign: Zone will try to involve Khateeb of Jamamasjid in their areas giving special address on violence against women.

Awareness rising among the labour in Hattar Industrial areas: HDR with the collaboration of SHARA Development Foundation will arrange small stall in the Hattar Industrial Area to educate the labour about the ribbon campaign.

Awareness rising in the truck drivers: HDR and SAHARA Development Foundation will focus Truck drivers to educate them about white ribbon campaign.

white ribbon2Radio Programme on white ribbon campaign: HDR with the collaboration of PBC Abbottabad will arrange a radio programme on white ribbon campaign. Renowned religious scholar Dr. Arshad Qayaum, Lawyer High Court Sohail Jadoon, President women Center Abbottabad and manager HDR would be at the panel In the programme. The programme would be broadactes on Dec 10,2010.  

Article writing in ‘Sunginama’ on violence against women: HDR will invite article writings form the community activist, youth, media person, political parties activists, religious leaders, on violence against women. Sungi communication section will release Special number on this topic in December 2010.
